Christians and Families

I have recently started working in a middle school down here in Arizona, and I am reminded every day of the decay that our nation faces. The decay that I am specifically talking about is the decay of the family. Through its history United States’ foundation was the family unit. When that started to crumble the nation began to crumble.

Today, kids are, apparently, shameless when talking about how they visit their fathers on the weekend. Students have different last names than their mothers which was almost completely foreign to me when I was in school. I also have heard plenty of stories about either one or both parents being incarcerated. Regardless of the situation, there are a countless number of kids without a consistent influence of both a mother and a father.

This trend carries with it some devastating effects, and they are starting to seep even deeper as many kids with divorced parents grow up. For more information on the side-effects of divorce on kids check out my post Stand For Marriage: Divorce and Children.

What Christians can do is model healthy families who hold to the Word of God. Families that raise their children with a fear of God and a heart for truth. God established the family unit and Christians should be the last to allow our families to crumble.
